Pope Leo XIV inaugurated the exhibition cycle titled Catastrophe and Wonder at the Vatican Apostolic Library on September 14, 2026. This visit marks the first time the Pope has visited the library during his pontificate.

The Pope stated that the visit demonstrates his recognition of the mission of the Apostolic Archive and the Vatican Apostolic Library to serve the development and spread of culture for the benefit of the Church and humanity. He noted that these institutions work to safeguard and promote the study of documents related to the government of the universal Church and preserve scientific heritage.

During the event, the Pope acknowledged Monsignor Pagazzi, the archivist and librarian of the Roman Church, as well as the prefects, vice-prefects, and staff of the library and archive. He also thanked various benefactors.
