Indian Ocean Catholic Bishops Commit to Renewed Synodal Journey Amid Social and Pastoral Challenges

The bishops identified several major challenges facing their societies and churches, including weakening family and social ties, economic insecurity, and difficulties in passing on the Christian faith to younger generations. They also expressed concern regarding migration, ecological issues, and addictions affecting young people.

To respond to these issues, CEDOI members stated that churches in the region must become more attentive through listening, discernment, and pastoral accompaniment. The bishops noted that these realities require more than institutional responses and emphasized the need to listen to the experiences of those affected to find concrete ways to support them.
