La Pastoral Penitenciaria de Málaga prepara las celebraciones de la Virgen de la Merced

The Málaga Penitentiary Pastoral is preparing celebrations for the Virgin of Mercy to offer the Virgin as a model of faith and hope to incarcerated people. Pedro Fernández Alejo, the diocesan delegate and chaplain of the Alhaurín de la Torre prison, said the ministry focuses on personal encounters through dialogue, listening, and welcoming inmates within their modules.

The pastoral work serves approximately 1,800 people across several facilities, including the Málaga I prison in Alhaurín de la Torre, the Málaga II prison in Archidona, the Evaristo Martín Nieto center, and a prison in Melilla. Three Trinitarian chaplains and 30 volunteers support these efforts, with volunteers traveling weekly to the Alhaurín de la Torre and Archidona centers. In Archidona, a team consists of the chaplain, five volunteers from Antequera, and four volunteers from Málaga.
