Pope Leo XIV has revoked the 2021 Motu Proprio "A Sustainable Future," which reduced the salaries of cardinals, religious leaders, and clergy. The original rule was established by Pope Francis to address the financial emergency caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The decision follows a consultation with the Secretariat for the Economy and a careful examination of the matter by the Pope. The revocation applies to the salaries of cardinals, heads and secretaries of dicasteries, priests, and members of religious orders.

While the Pope has abolished the rule, he is not reversing the salary reductions or the freezing of biennial seniority increases that occurred while the law was in effect.
