Pope Leo XIV said that new martyrs reflect the light of Christ during a meeting with participants of a colloquium held at the Augustinianum Institute. The event, titled "The 21st Century: A New Era of Martyrs?", was organized by the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints on September 15.

Addressing nearly 300 attendees before his general audience at St. Peter's Square, the Pope stated that witnesses of the faith do not promote an ideology. Instead, he said they demonstrate a faith lived in daily life that can disarm a culture of power.
