Pope Leo XIV said that new martyrs reflect the light of Christ during a meeting with nearly 300 participants at the Augustinianum Institute on September 15. The gathering, titled "The 21st Century: A New Era of Martyrs?", was organized by the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints.

In his address before the general audience at St. Peter's Square, the Pope stated that witnesses of the faith do not promote an ideology but instead demonstrate a faith lived in daily life. He noted that this lived faith has the capacity to disarm the culture of power.
