Los fieles de Santomera celebran al Cristo del Calvario

The faithful of Santomera are celebrating the feast of Christ of Calvary, with festivities held annually around September 14 to coincide with the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The celebrations began on Sunday with a traditional pilgrimage to the Calvary hermitage.

The image of Christ will be at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish for the Eucharist at 20:00 on Thursday. The Coral of the Asociación de Amas de Casa de Santomera will solemnize the celebration. The image will then return to its hermitage until Sunday.

On Sunday, the image will move to the plaza de Santa Isabel for a Mass at 20:00 accompanied by the choir of Nuestra Señora del Rosario. A procession with the image will take place at 21:00 through the streets of the neighborhood to return to the ermita del Calvario. Antonio José Abellán, the parish priest of Santomera, said the image is one to which the people of Santomera and the surrounding areas have much devotion.
