Mother Teresa Documentary Premieres in Kolkata on Her Feast Day

Archbishop Elias Frank of Kolkata presided over the premiere of a new international documentary about St. Teresa of Kolkata on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026. The film, titled Mother Teresa – Prophet of Compassion, screened at the St. Xavier’s College auditorium in Kolkata on the saint's feast day. More than 200 people attended the event, including dozens of novices and nuns from the Missionaries of Charity.

Journalist and author Anto Akkara produced the documentary, which examines the life, legacy, and work of Mother Teresa. During his opening remarks, Archbishop Frank praised Akkara for his effort to show lesser-known parts of the saint's life to a global audience. The archbishop noted that the film provides a journalistic look at events involving the Missionaries of Charity.

Akkara, who also contributes to EWTN News, said his connection to Mother Teresa began in 1995 when he conducted an interview with her.
