Nigeria’s Catholic Laity Council Calls for National “soul-searching” Amid Insecurity and Leadership Challenges

The National President of the Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria, Sir Ambrose Obioha, has called on Nigerians to engage in national soul-searching to address insecurity, economic hardship, and leadership challenges. Speaking on September 16 during a three-day workshop for lay apostolate leaders organized by the Pastoral Agents Department of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Obioha said rebuilding the country requires the participation of citizens, political leaders, and religious leaders.

Obioha urged Nigerians, including Catholics living abroad, to maintain hope despite the country's difficulties. He noted a leadership vacuum in critical areas and encouraged leaders at all levels of society to examine their responsibilities to the nation. He stated that social and religious leaders must advise one another to become better citizens and live and lead correctly to promote peace, security, and good governance.
