Pope Francis has appointed Brendan John Cahill as the bishop of the Diocese of Joliet in Illinois. Cahill previously served as the bishop of Victoria in Texas, a position he has held since April 23, 2015.

Born in Coral Gables, Florida, Cahill studied psychology and divinity at the University of Saint Thomas in Houston before earning a master's degree in Afro-American studies from Xavier University in New Orleans. He also holds a license and a doctorate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

Cahill was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston on May 19, 1990. His previous ministry includes serving as a parochial vicar in Houston and Spring, rector of Saint Mary Seminary in Houston, and director of the archdiocesan secretariat for clergy formation and chaplaincy services. He also served as vicar for clergy and chaired the priest personnel board.
