The (silent) mission of Lourdes: “God’s charity does not heal those who have no wounds”

In brief

Pope Leo XIV will visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes on September 26 and 27. The shrine expects approximately 150,000 people to attend the events, and registration for the visit has already closed.

During his visit, the Pope will pray at the Grotto, celebrate Sunday Mass on the shrine grounds, and participate in the Rosary and the Marian torchlight procession. He also plans to meet with sick pilgrims and their companions at the Accueil Notre-Dame.

Father Jean-Xavier Salefran, the vice-rector of the shrine and a priest of the Community of Saint Martin, said the arrival of the Pope is a significant event for the Church in France and the universal Church. He noted that shrine staff, priests, religious, volunteers, and hospital members are mobilizing to welcome the large crowd.
