Caritas-Uganda delivers relief to Karamoja

Caritas Uganda and directors from 19 Catholic dioceses delivered relief supplies to the Karamoja sub-region on September 2, 2026, to assist communities facing severe food shortages. The delegation arrived to provide aid and show solidarity with people struggling due to harsh weather conditions that have damaged food production and livelihoods.

The intervention follows an appeal from the Uganda Episcopal Conference. Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa, chairman of the conference and bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese, previously asked all bishops to organize relief for the Kotido and Moroto dioceses, where thousands of families are affected.

Father Anyasio Mbusa, director of Caritas-Kasese, stated that families in these areas urgently require food, safe water, and assistance to protect their livestock. He noted that while the supplies may not meet the full scale of the crisis, they will help the affected communities. Father Mbusa also thanked Christians across Uganda for their contributions to the relief effort.
