Vatican permitted traditional Latin Mass in 34 dioceses in 2025 (Dicastery for Divine Worship (Latin))

The Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments issued decrees in 2025 allowing the celebration of the traditional Latin Mass in parishes across 34 dioceses worldwide. These decrees permit the use of the 1962 Missal.

Seven decrees were issued during the current papacy, while 27 were issued after the election of Pope Leo on May 8. This follows previous years of activity by the dicastery, which issued 34 such decrees in 2024 and 55 in 2023. These permissions exist under the framework of the apostolic letter Traditionis Custodes, which Pope Francis issued in July 2021 to restrict the celebration of the extraordinary form.
