Villanova University will establish a papal medal, according to Vatican News. The university, where Robert Francis Prevost studied, plans to hold a press conference in the Vatican on September 14 to announce the first recipient of the award.

Pope Leo XIV will present the medal on October 13 at Borgo Laudato si’ in Castel Gandolfo. During the press conference, the university will also present the 2026 Villanova University International Sustainability Conference, which carries the theme of the cry of the poor and the cry of the earth.
