Pope Leo XIV visits Vatican Library

Pope Leo XIV visited the Vatican Apostolic Library on September 14, 2026, to inaugurate the exhibition cycle titled Catastrophe and Wonder. This visit marks the first time the Pope has visited the library during his papacy.

The Pope expressed his support for the mission of the Apostolic Library and the Apostolic Archives to promote culture for the benefit of the Church and humanity. He noted that these institutions serve to preserve and highlight documents related to the governance of the universal Church, as established in the apostolic constitution Praedicate Evangelium.

During the visit, the Pope thanked Monsignor Pagazzi, the librarian and archivist, as well as the prefects, vice-prefects, and staff of the library and archives. He also acknowledged the president and various benefactors.
