WCC leader calls for healing, reconciliation in Korea (World Council of Churches)

Rev. Jerry Pillay, the general secretary of the World Council of Churches, called for healing and reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula during an ecumenical peace convocation in Seoul.

In a sermon delivered on September 9, Pillay stated that decades of division have separated families, fractured communities, and shaped generations through memories of conflict. He noted that many lives continue to suffer from war, poverty, displacement, environmental destruction, and fear, adding that historical wounds remain even in areas where open warfare has ended. The World Council of Churches is a fellowship consisting of 350 Protestant and Orthodox communities.
