Whistler welcomes Catholic sanctuary

Whistler celebrated the formal grand opening of the Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church on Sept. 19. The event brought together local Catholics, the wider Whistler community, and donors to mark the completion of the nearly $8 million project.

The church previously opened for its consecration on May 31, the Feast of the Visitation, though it remained partially unfinished at that time. Pastor Fr. Andrew L’Heureux told the Catholic Register that the project involved years of struggle and physical labor. He noted that the installation of the altar, tabernacle, and communion rail helped the community realize the special nature of the new space.
