“You are not a lost generation”: Apostolic Nuncio in Ghana Challenges West African Youth to Transform Africa

Archbishop Julien Kaboré, the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, told young Catholics at the first West African Youth Day in Accra that they must reject fear and embrace their responsibility to transform their countries and the Church. Speaking at the opening ceremony on Tuesday, September 8, the Archbishop encouraged young people to build friendships based on faith and to view themselves as the present strength of society rather than a generation waiting for future opportunities.

Archbishop Kaboré acknowledged that many young people face uncertainty, violence, insecurity, and anxiety regarding the future. However, he stated that these challenges should not define their identity or their role in society. He noted that the Church views young people as the today of God and requires their energy, talents, and hope in the present moment. The Archbishop, who has served as the Pope's representative in Ghana since June 2024, urged the attendees not to see themselves as victims or as a sacrificed generation.
