History

A Latin Church archdiocese in Sicily, Italy, Agrigento (Latin: Archidioecesis Agrigentina) was known in its historic form by the colloquial names Diocese of Girgenti and Diocese of Agrigentum. From 1183 the see was a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Monreale. Raised to metropolitan rank in 2000, it now presides over an ecclesiastical province containing two suffragan dioceses.
