The Diocese of Avellaneda-Lanus in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina was erected as the Diocese of Avellaneda on 10 April 1961 and renamed on 24 April 2001. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires, with current bishop Marcelo Julian Margni appointed in 2021.

    The Diocese of Avellaneda–Lanús is hosting a pilgrimage of the Virgin of Itatí from September 26 to October 3. The traveling image arrives from Corrientes to visit various pastoral communities throughout the diocese. The itinerary begins at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption in Avellaneda with a Mass on Saturday, September 26. On Sunday, September 27, the image visits San Cayetano in Monte Chingolo for a 10.00 Mass. The pilgrimage continues to Cristo Redentor in Valentín Alsina on Monday, September 28, where the image arrives at 19.00 for the Rosary. On Tuesday, September 29, the image remains at Cristo Redentor for prayer and an 18.00 Mass. The visit moves to Cristo Salvador in Monte Chingolo on Wednesday, September 30, with a 19.00 Mass at the Itatí chapel. On Thursday, October 1, the image visits the Santa Inés parish in Lanús for a 19.00 Mass, followed by another Mass on Friday, October 2, at 18.00.

  • Diocese of Avellaneda–Lanús grants plenary indulgence

    Bishop Marcelo Julian Margni has granted a plenary indulgence to the faithful in the Diocese of Avellaneda-Lanús to mark the Year of St. Francis. This period runs from January 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027, to commemorate the VIII Centenario of the transition of San Francisco de Asís to eternal life. The Capilla San Francisco de Asís, located at Mario Bravo and Valparaíso in El Fortín, is the recognized pilgrimage site for this indulgence. To obtain it, people must visit the chapel with a spirit of faith and a desire for conversion, participating in jubilee rites or dedicating time to prayer and meditation. The prayer must conclude with the Padrenuestro, the Credo, and invocations to the Santísima Virgen María, San Francisco de Asís, Santa Clara, and all the saints of the Franciscan Family. The indulgence can be applied to oneself or to the souls in Purgatory. The elderly, the sick, their assistants, and those unable to leave their homes due to serious reasons may also receive this gift by joining the celebrations spiritually.
