Latin-rite diocese covering the Austrian state of Upper Austria, erected 28 January 1785 from the Diocese of Passau, suffragan of the Archdiocese of Vienna. Its seat is the Mariendom (New Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception) in Linz, begun in 1862 and consecrated in 1905. Bishop Manfred Scheuer has led the diocese since his appointment on 18 November 2015.
