The Diocese of Petropolis in Rio de Janeiro state was established on April 13, 1946, from the dioceses of Barra do Pirai and Niteroi. A suffragan of the Archdiocese of Niteroi, it is led by Bishop Joel Portella Amado, installed in March 2024.

History
The city of Petrópolis in Brazil is the seat of this diocese (Latin: Dioecesis Petropolitanus), which forms part of the ecclesiastical province of Niterói.
