History
Pope Pius XI erected the Diocese of Amos (French: Diocèse d'Amos, Latin: Dioecesis Amosensis) on December 3, 1938, as a Latin Church diocese covering part of the Province of Quebec. Its first bishop, Joseph-Aldée Desmarais, was named by Pope Pius XII on June 20, 1939. The diocese spans a total area of 127,237 square miles (329,540 km2) and counts a total population of 115,000.
