The Archdiocese of Quebec is the oldest episcopal see in the Americas north of Mexico, erected as a diocese in 1674 and elevated to a metropolitan archdiocese in 1819. Its archbishop holds the ceremonial title of Primate of Canada.

History
The oldest episcopal see in the New World north of Mexico, and the primatial see of Canada, is the Archdiocese of Québec (Latin: Archidiœcesis Quebecensis; French: Archidiocèse de Québec), a Latin Church archdiocese of the Catholic Church in Quebec, Canada. It also serves as the metropolitan see of an ecclesiastical province whose suffragan dioceses are Chicoutimi, Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière and Trois-Rivières. Notre-Dame de Québec in Quebec City is the archdiocese's cathedral.
