Diocese of Victoria

History

All of Vancouver Island, along with several nearby British Columbia islands, makes up the Diocese of Victoria (Latin: Dioecesis Victoriensis in Insula Vancouver), the oldest Canadian diocese west of Toronto. A Latin Church see with its seat in Victoria, it is a suffragan in the province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Vancouver. Its cathedral is St. Andrew's Cathedral, and Gary Gordon is the present diocesan bishop.

Archbishop Hicks described Cahill as a man of deep faith and a pastor for those on the margins, noting that his fluency in Spanish will benefit the diocese.
