History

A Latin Church see in Sicily, the Diocese of Caltanissetta (Latin: Dioecesis Calatanisiadensis) has its city some 40 mi (53 km) northeast of Agrigento and about 32 mi (50 km) northwest of Piazza Armerina. Between 1844 and 2000 the diocese belonged to the ecclesiastical province of Monreale; since 2000 it has been a suffragan of the archdiocese of Agrigento.
