Latin Church apostolic prefecture seated at Zhaotong in Yunnan, southwestern China, established on April 8, 1935 on territory split off from the Apostolic Vicariate of Yunnanfu. It is exempt, directly dependent on the Holy See and not part of any ecclesiastical province. The prefecture has been vacant since 1982 and without an apostolic administrator since the death of Father Lawrence Zhang Wenchang in 2012.

History
In the city of Zhaotong (Tchao-tong), in the southwestern Chinese province of Yunnan, sits the Apostolic Prefecture of Zhaotong, a Latin pre-diocesan missionary jurisdiction of the Catholic Church not entitled to a titular bishop. It is exempt, belonging to no ecclesiastical province and depending directly on the Holy See, notably its missionary Roman Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. Vacant since 1982, it has been without even an apostolic administrator since 2012.
