It was erected on 17 December 1952 from the Diocese of Manizales and the Apostolic Prefecture of Choco. Its seat is the Cathedral of Nuestra Senora de la Pobreza in Pereira.

History
Pereira gives its name to this Colombian diocese (Latin: Diocesis Pereiranus), seated in that city within the ecclesiastical province of Manizales.
