It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Oviedo, with its seat at the Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady in Astorga. Bishop Jesus Fernandez Gonzalez was appointed on 8 June 2020.

History
One of the oldest sees in Spain, tracing its foundation to the 3rd century, the Diocese of Astorga (Latin: Dioecesis Asturicensis) is a Latin Church diocese seated in the city of Astorga, in the province of León, Castile and León. Since 1954 it has belonged to the ecclesiastical province of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Oviedo.
