History
Carved out of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Madrid on 23 July 1991, the Diocese of Getafe (Latin: Dioecesis Xetafensis) is a Latin ecclesiastical territory of the Catholic Church in Spain belonging to the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Madrid. Its seat is Getafe Cathedral in the city of Getafe.

Bishop of Getafe Dissolves the Brothers of Merciful Love Following the Dissolution of the Women’s Branch
Bishop Ginés García Beltrán of the Diocese of Getafe dissolved the communal formation of the Brothers of Merciful Love on September 15. This decision ends the collective religious experiment that began in 2008 and dissolves the group's established formation house. The move follows more than a year of canonical scrutiny regarding the female branch of the movement. The decision affects seven priests, two deacons, and approximately 20 seminarians. Five of the priests are incardinated in Getafe, while two are temporarily incorporated through arrangements with other bishops. These men will now enter individual processes of vocational discernment. The diocese stated that the decision is not a negative judgment on their vocations or an indication that the men acted improperly. Priests and deacons currently in ministry will continue their pastoral assignments during this period. Seminarians may choose to stay in diocesan seminaries or join other recognized religious institutes or forms of consecrated life. The responsibility for each man's future vocation now rests with the individual and the Church authorities responsible for his formation.
