History
In Extremadura, western Spain, the Diocese of Plasencia (Latin: Dioecesis Placentina in Hispania) is a suffragan Latin diocese of the Catholic Church within the ecclesiastical province of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Mérida-Badajoz. The episcopal seat is the Catedral Nueva Gótica de Santa María (Gothic new cathedral) in the city of Plasencia, dedicated to the Virgin Mary; the city also preserves the Romanesque former cathedral, the Catedral Vieja Románica de San Pablo, dedicated to St. Paul.
