History

The entire department of Seine-et-Marne forms the territory of the Diocese of Meaux (Latin: Dioecesis Meldensis; French: Diocèse de Meaux), a Latin diocese of the Catholic Church in France. Until 1622 it stood as a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Sens, and afterward of the Archdiocese of Paris.
