It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Liverpool, with its seat at St Mary's Cathedral, Middlesbrough (Coulby Newham). The see is currently vacant (sede vacante), with Bishop Marcus Stock appointed apostolic administrator on 22 December 2025.

History

Based in Middlesbrough, England, and belonging to the province of Liverpool, the Diocese of Middlesbrough (Latin: Dioecesis Medioburgensis) is a Latin diocese of the Catholic Church. It came into being on 20 December 1878 with the splitting of the Diocese of Beverley, which had covered all of Yorkshire. The Bishop's See is at St Mary's Cathedral in Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough. Catholic schools within the diocese are run by the Nicholas Postgate Catholic Academy Trust and St Cuthbert's Roman Catholic Academy Trust.
