The Archdiocese of Athens is the Latin rite archdiocese for Athens and its region, restored as a residential see in the mid-19th century after the Greek War of Independence. Its seat is the Cathedral Basilica of St Dionysius the Areopagite on Panepistimiou Avenue. Archbishop Theodoros Kontidis, S.J., a Thessaloniki-born Jesuit, has led the archdiocese since 14 July 2021 and is also apostolic administrator of the Archdiocese of Rhodes.
