Latin-rite metropolitan archdiocese based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, formed 13 November 1952 by the merger of the sees of Madras and Mylapore (Mylapore erected 1606; Madras a metropolitan see since 1886). Its seat is the St Thomas Cathedral Basilica at Santhome, built over the tomb of the Apostle Thomas, with St Mary of the Angels Co-Cathedral in Georgetown. Its suffragans are Chingleput, Coimbatore, Ootacamund, and Vellore.
