Latin-rite metropolitan archdiocese in Tamil Nadu, India. Established as the Diocese of Madura on 8 January 1938 and promoted to a metropolitan archdiocese on 9 September 1953. Its seat is St Mary's Cathedral (Our Lady of Dolours) in Madurai; its suffragans are Dindigul, Kottar, Kuzhithurai, Palayamkottai, Sivagangai, Tiruchirapalli, and Tuticorin.
