Its seat is Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rourkela; with about 270,800 Catholics (2020, 12.4% of the population) across 44 parishes it is one of the larger Catholic communities in eastern India.

History

The city of Rourkela is the seat of this diocese (Latin: Rurkelaën(sis)), which lies within the ecclesiastical province of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar in India.
