History
Within the province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Gwangju lies the Diocese of Jeonju (Latin: Dioecesis Ieoniuensis), a Latin Church territory of the Catholic Church in South Korea that depends on the missionary Dicastery for Evangelization. Its cathedra stands in the Joongang Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the episcopal city of Jeonju 전주시, Jeollabuk-do 전라북도. Jeonju also holds a former cathedral, now the Jeondong Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus; both churches carry the dedication to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
