Latin-rite metropolitan archdiocese based in the Kazakh capital, established on July 7, 1999 as the Apostolic Administration of Astana and elevated to metropolitan archdiocese by John Paul II on May 17, 2003. Its seat is the Cathedral of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Astana. Polish-born Archbishop Tomasz Peta has led the see since 2003 and presides over the Bishops' Conference of Kazakhstan.
