On what a cathedral is, see the cathedral; every see church on earth is gathered at the cathedrals.
History
A see of ancient standing in Italy, Lucca (Latin: Archidioecesis Lucensis) dates as a diocese to at least the 4th century and became an archdiocese in 1726. The archbishop's seat is in the cathedral of S. Martino in Lucca.
