History
Historically known as the Eparchy of Thebes (Latin: Eparchia Thebana), this suffragan eparchy (Eastern Catholic diocese) belongs to the Coptic Catholic Church, an Eastern Catholic Church in full communion with the Holy See. Its jurisdiction takes in the southern governorates of Egypt, with the episcopal see at Luxor, the ancient Thebes. Emmanuel Bishay is the current eparch.
