History

Centered on Ciudad Obregón in Sonora, Mexico, this diocese (Latin: Dioecesis Civitatis Obregonensis) was erected on 20 June 1959 and is suffragan to the Archdiocese of Hermosillo. In 1966 it ceded territory, together with the Archdiocese of Chihuahua and the Diocese of Ciudad Juárez, toward the creation of the Territorial Prelature of Madera.
