History

One of the older sees of northern Italy, the Diocese of Padua (Italian: Diocesi di Padova; Latin: Dioecesis Patavina) was erected in the 3rd century and serves the Veneto region as a Latin diocese of the Catholic Church. For most of its history it stood as a suffragan (subordinate) of the Patriarchate of Aquileia; when that Patriarchate was permanently suppressed in 1752, Padua passed under the Archdiocese of Udine as its suffragan.
