Latin-rite diocese in northeastern Poland, tracing to the Diocese of Wigry erected in 1798; the see moved through Augustow and Sejny before being renamed Diocese of Lomza on 28 October 1925. Since 1992 it is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Bialystok. Its mother church is the Cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel in Lomza.

History

The city of Łomża, within the ecclesiastical province of Białystok in Poland, is the seat of this Latin Church diocese (Latin: Dioecesis Lomzensis). The diocese currently counts 526 priests. Its most recent priestly death was that of Fr. Franciszek Wróblewski, who died on 25 August at age 81.
