The Diocese of Stockholm, erected in 1953, is the only Catholic diocese in Sweden and is immediately subject to the Holy See, covering the whole country. Its bishop is Cardinal Anders Arborelius, O.C.D., the first Swedish cardinal, in office since 1998.
