Metropolitan archeparchy of the Slovak Greek Catholic Church, erected as an eparchy in 1818 and raised to a metropolitan archeparchy in 2008, with the Eparchies of Košice and Bratislava as suffragans. Jonáš Maxim has been archeparch since 2023. Note: this see is Byzantine (Greek Catholic) rite, not Latin rite as labeled in the source; there is no Latin diocese of Prešov.

History

Within the Slovak Greek Catholic Church, an Eastern Catholic particular church in full communion with the Holy See, Prešov holds the rank of archeparchy (Latin: Archieparchiensis Presoviensis), the Eastern equivalent of a Latin archdiocese. It serves as the metropolitan see of the Slovak Greek Catholic ecclesiastical province, whose territory embraces the whole of Slovakia.
