History

On the island of Sardinia in Italy, the Latin Church Diocese of Tempio-Ampurias (Latin: Dioecesis Templensis-Ampuriensis) carries a long combined history. Known as the diocese of Ampurias until 1506, it was then combined with the diocese of Tempio, a single bishop holding both separate sees at once, and until 1986 it bore the name Diocese of Ampurias e Tempio. On 30 September 1986 the two dioceses were formally united as one under the name Tempio-Ampurias. The bishop's seat is in Tempio, and the diocese is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Sassari.
