The cathedral

Cathedral of the Holy Dormition of the Mother of God stands in Stryj, the church that holds the cathedra from which this see takes its name.

On what a cathedral is, see the cathedral; every see church on earth is gathered at the cathedrals.

History

A suffragan see of the Archeparchy of Lviv, the Eparchy of Stryi belongs to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Pope John Paul II named its first eparch, Bishop Julian Gbur, on 21 July 2000; he died on 24 March 2011. Taras Senkiv now holds the see. The eparchy's cathedral church, the Cathedral of Dormition of the Mother of God, stands in the city of Stryi.
