Latin rite diocese covering Nueva Esparta state (the islands of Margarita, Coche and Cubagua), Venezuela, with its see at La Asuncion on Isla Margarita. Erected 18 July 1969 by Pope Paul VI from the Diocese of Cumana; it is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Cumana. Its cathedral is the Catedral Nuestra Senora de La Asuncion.

History
The island of Isla Margarita is home to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Margarita, known in Latin as Dioecesis Margaritensis, which forms part of the ecclesiastical province of Cumaná in Venezuela.
