History

Petare, within the ecclesiastical province of Caracas, gives its name to a Roman Catholic diocese (Latin: Dioecesis Petarensis) whose territory corresponds to the civil department of the municipality of Sucre, Miranda. It was formed from five civil parishes that had until then belonged to the metropolitan archdiocese of Caracas. As of 2021 the diocese comprised 23 parishes, served by 57 priests, with 5 seminarians in formation.
